We classify baths as hot or cold, and their task is to gradually cool down the finished product. Designed with ease of use and energy efficiency in mind; each model uses a closed water circuit, speed control, and height adjustment, to adapt to the extruder’s axis. The hot bath heats from 40°C to 80°C and is the first stage of product cooling. Water between these temperatures prevents uncontrolled and rapid shrinkage of the extruded filament. The bath is made of acid- resistant steel, and has a mechanism for precise feeding along the longitudinal axis. The traverse system makes working significantly easier, giving the possibility of moving the bathtub away from the head by up to 200 mm, and ensuring precise and repeatable adjustment of the distance from the extruder head. The water tank is equipped with a system for heating to a fixed temperature, and maintaining it, thanks to a set of dedicated sensors. The bathtub operates in a closed water circuit, which is equipped with a circulation pump, with capacity regulation and fabric filter. Topping up the water in the tank is done automatically, which greatly simplifies and shortens the working time. All functions of the bath are controlled from the operator panel. An important element in the device is the vacuum calibrator, which is described in a separate chapter.

The cold bath heats up to 40°C and is the final stage of extrudate cooling. Constant low water temperatures allow heat dissipation from the strand in the most-efficient way. The bath is made of stainless steel and has guide rollers, and an air dryer in the final section. Just like in the hot bath, the water is maintained at the same temperature by a set of sensors. Our device is equipped with two mechanical water aerators, and an efficient pressure dryer. The dryer is the last stage of removing moisture from the product. It is located just behind the sponge system and the water aerator. The device is designed not to allow the product to vibrate. Moisture removal in the dryer takes place through strong air movement, so a very-efficient side-duct exhaust fan is used. The precise drying of the filament is a key stage in ensuring the highest accuracy of laser- diameter measurement. If this doesn’t happen, the meter will measure the diameter of the filament including the film of water.
